Case Study: Panasonic AVC Networks Australia

Country: Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
The Company: Panasonic AVC Networks Australia Pty Ltd (PAVCAU) is one of three sister companies located in New Zealand and Australia and is a specialist manufacturer of consumer electronics such as color television receivers. PAVCAU has been in business since 1969 and employs 110 people.
The Challenge: After resources were dedicated to research and development and to upgrading PAVCAU’s manufacturing process, the company focused their attention on upgrading the old computer systems and administrative processes. Two main goals were identified: reduce business risk and improve system performance.
The QAD Solution: PAVCAU commenced a major project to source and install system upgrades from QAD Enterprise Applications (v 9.0) to eB2 at their Penrith site. The project was coordinated across a number of hardware and software suppliers, including QAD Australia who implemented the upgrade.
The Benefits: The returns have been far greater than the company could have imagined. PAVCAU’s EDI ECommerce and global requisitioning resulted in a savings of 75 percent on invoice annotation and an increase in the productivity/work force ratio while improved system performance substantially reduced wait- and down-time and resulted in general productivity savings of 88 percent.

Case Study: Shanghai SEB Electrical Appliances Co.

Country: Shanghai, China
The Company: Shanghai SEB Electrical Appliances Co., Ltd. (SSEAC) belongs to GroupeSEB, a world leader in non-stick cookware, linen care, and small household electrical appliances. The Shanghai facility is also a main supplier of steam irons, vacuum cleaners, and steamers and is one of nine GroupeSEB production sites worldwide.
The Challenge: During its time as a state-owned joint venture, SSEAC had no information infrastructure or systematic procedures. All information was collected by hand. After becoming a member of GroupeSEB, SSEAC was asked to improve management control by implementing widespread automation, meet group requirements for reporting and institute a flexible supply policy to support frequent changes in the production schedule from unplanned orders.
The QAD Solution: SSEAC chose QAD Enterprise Applications, which includes financials, purchasing, sales, manufacturing, and costing modules, due to QAD’s substantial experience in the household electrical appliance industry and the effectiveness of QAD’s Electronics Industry Development Group.
The Benefits: QAD Enterprise Applications created the company’s first electronic database and data-sharing capabilities. As a result, SSEAC improved BOM handling, procurement, and production planning. Month-end closing was shortened from 2 weeks to 2 days. SSEAC now verifies their sales inventory on-line, a drastic improvement from the days when inventory data was collected by hand.

Case Study: SanDisk

Country: USA
The Company: SanDisk designs, develops and markets flash storage products that millions around the world use every day: USB “thumb” drives, as well as memory cards used in cell phones, digital cameras, electronic games, and hand-held devices. SanDisk recently extended its product line, introducing a line of MP3 players—quickly becoming one of the world’s top suppliers of digital audio devices. Headquartered in Sunnyvale, CA, SanDisk has over 900 employees worldwide.
The Challenge: While SanDisk designs and sells its products, all manufacturing is outsourced. As SanDisk and its extended virtual supply chain grew, so did the necessity to collaborate electronically with subcontractors and trading partners. SanDisk's business strategy requires frequent evaluation and identification of new, cost-effective processes ― and the flexibility to efficiently engage supply chain partners.
The QAD Solution: The Sterling Commerce Gentran Integration Suite (GIS) is a key part of SanDisk’s platform for QAD integration, as well as integration with other third party applications and legacy applications.
